By Belize Live News Staff: By Police are investigating allegations made by a Belizean-Salvadoran resident of Caye Caulker, Belize District, after his common-law wife reportedly left the country with their two children without his consent.
Oscar Montoya claims that on New Year’s Eve, his common-law partner, Rosa Maria Gonzalez Llamas, 35, traveled to Guatemala with their sons, 9-year-old Oscartio Montoya and 6-year-old Josue Montoya. Both boys, who were born in Belize, currently attend Caye Caulker Roman Catholic Primary School.
Montoya informed authorities that he has attempted to maintain communication with Gonzalez Llamas through WhatsApp, but she has since blocked him. He stated that he has sent financial assistance through Western Union on at least two occasions, as Gonzalez Llamas is unemployed. However, when questioned about her return, Gonzalez Llamas allegedly told him she would not be coming back.
Montoya asserts that he did not grant any written or verbal permission for Gonzalez Llamas to travel abroad with their children.
Police have issued an alert countrywide. Authorities are urging the public to contact 922 or the nearest police station if Gonzalez Llamas or the children are located.
