Man injured in early morning shooting in Belize City

By Belize Live News Staff: A man was injured in an early morning shooting near Iguana Street, Belize City, on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

Police responded to reports of the incident around 4:40 a.m. and later found 21-year-old Shemar Gillet at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit. Gillet, a resident of Iguana Street, sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm.

Initial investigations reveal that Gillet was walking home on Marigold Alley around 4:30 a.m. when a vehicle stopped at the corner of Gibnut and Marigold Alley. Someone inside the vehicle fired shots in his direction, striking him once.

Authorities are investigating the incident and are appealing to the public for any information that may lead to identifying those responsible.
