Toddler wounded by stray bullet during New Year’s Eve fireworks in Belize City

By Belize Live News Staff: A toddler was struck by a stray bullet during New Year’s Eve celebrations in the Jane Usher area, marking a tragic start to 2025.

The child, who was at home with a parent, complained of sudden pain in the left hand as fireworks lit up the sky. The parent discovered blood and rushed the toddler to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where medical staff confirmed the injury was caused by a gunshot wound.

Police reports indicate that gunfire erupted earlier in the evening near King Park and Police Street, and authorities believe the stray bullet may have been linked to that incident.

The Belize City Criminal Investigation Branch is leading the investigation and has appealed to the public for any information that could assist in identifying those responsible.
