By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities are investigating the death of a 79-year-old farmer in Maypen Village, who passed away after falling from a horse on Friday morning.
Police responded to the incident around 11 a.m. and were led by 70-year-old farmer Denton Moody to a pasture near the riverside, where the body of Ernest Williams Funez was found lying face-up on the ground.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Funez was seated on the horse behind Moody when he fell off and became unresponsive. Moody immediately contacted police for assistance.
There were no visible signs of injury on the body, and no foul play is suspected. A forensic team photographed the scene, and the body was later transported to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where it was pronounced dead at 5:21 p.m..
The body is now at the KHMH morgue, awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigators have stated that Funez’s medical history is unknown, and they are working to determine the cause of death.
