By Belize Live News Staff: The village of San Jose Succotz, the gateway to the Xunantunich Archaeological Site, inaugurated a newly renovated welcome center over the weekend, marking a boost for tourism and community engagement.
The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) and Minister Jorge ‘Milin’ Espat led the ceremony, unveiling the transformed facility, which had previously fallen into neglect. Designed as a central hub for visitors and tour guides, the center aims to facilitate organized tours and provide cultural and historical insights into the Xunantunich Maya Ruins.
“This development is a key step in advancing the village’s role as a growing tourism destination,” a government statement said, emphasizing its contribution to Belize’s cultural heritage.
As a gesture of gratitude, local tour guide Rosario Vasquez presented Minister Espat with a sculpted artifact featuring Belize’s national symbols.
The welcome center’s reopening positions San Jose Succotz as an essential stop for visitors exploring one of Belize’s most iconic archaeological sites.
