By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities have released information about the tragic triple murder that occurred on Saturday night on the Monkey River Village Road in the Toledo District, claiming the lives of Elvis Garbutt, his wife Emerita, and their son Elvis Junior.
Police have confirmed the arrest of the prime suspect, Curtis Molina, also known as Curtis Garbutt or “Zus.”
According to a family member’s account, the surviving daughter of Elvis Garbutt arrived at the village waterside and informed another relative that “Zus” had shot her parents. Villagers later assisted police in locating the family’s vehicle, a Jeep Liberty with Cayo license plates, on a dead-end road off the Monkey River Village Road.
The vehicle’s passenger-side doors were found open, with the bodies of Emerita and Elvis Junior inside. Tragically, the family dog was also found deceased in the vehicle. The body of Elvis Garbutt was discovered on the roadside a short distance away, heading out of the village. All three victims had sustained shotgun pellet wounds.
While police have yet to announce an official motive, the suspect is described as a known troublemaker in the village and is reported to have had a dispute with the Garbutt family.
Investigations into this horrific crime are ongoing.
