By Belize Live News Staff: A heartfelt fundraising effort led by San Ignacio resident Andrew “Passy” Haylock has collected $18,709.42 to aid the families of ten individuals who tragically lost their lives in a devastating road accident over the weekend.
The campaign, dubbed “Just a Dollar,” encourages community members to donate a single dollar to support funeral expenses for the victims. Contributions can be deposited into Belize Bank account number 123827010220002, registered under Andrew Haylock, or delivered directly to The Gully Grill in San Ignacio. Those seeking additional details can reach Haylock at 610-1632.
The victims, according to family members, were returning from Christmas shopping in Melchor de Mencos when the tragedy struck. The vehicle involved, a white Toyota Corolla driven by Ruduel Parham, carried passengers including Parham’s sister-in-law, Aimee Hernandez, and several RCCbpo employees from San Ignacio, who had reportedly joined the ride due to a lack of taxis at the border.
Authorities report that the vehicle failed to stop at a police checkpoint before colliding head-on with a Ford Explorer. The impact caused the Ford Explorer to overturn and ignite. Tragically, a motorcyclist riding behind the SUV also collided with the vehicle, resulting in another fatality.
The unexpected loss has shaken the community, prompting an outpouring of generosity through Haylock’s initiative. The overwhelming response highlights the power of unity as San Ignacio comes together to support grieving families during this profoundly difficult time.
