By Belize Live News Staff: Belize Live News reports a devastating accident at Mile 68 on the George Price Highway that has claimed the lives of 10 individuals, leaving the nation in mourning. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams confirmed the tragic details in a statement following the completion of preliminary investigations by San Ignacio Police.
The collision involved three vehicles: a Ford Expedition SUV traveling from San Ignacio toward Benque Viejo Town with four passengers, a Toyota Corolla taxi carrying nine passengers heading in the same direction, and a motorcycle with a lone rider. Tragically, all nine passengers in the taxi and the motorcyclist died at the scene.
“Of the four passengers in the Expedition, two are critical and are admitted to the hospital, and the other two received minor injuries,” Commissioner Williams stated. The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed, and police are working to determine the exact cause of the accident.
“This is truly a sad and tragic incident that underscores the fact that as drivers we must exercise due care when using the highways,” the Commissioner added. He urged the nation to come together in prayer for the affected families during this difficult time.
