By Belize Live News Staff: A fresh northerly wind is sweeping across Belize today, bringing with it a mix of sunshine and cloud cover. The National Meteorological Service has issued a forecast predicting isolated showers for most of the country, with the exception of the south, where residents can expect a few showers or light rain overnight and into Wednesday morning.
This gusty northerly airflow is also churning up the seas, leading to moderate to rough conditions with waves reaching heights of 5-7 feet. Small craft operators are advised to exercise caution when navigating these choppy waters, as the strong winds could create hazardous conditions.
Despite the wind, temperatures are expected to remain warm, reaching 85°F (29°C) along the coast and a slightly warmer 86°F (30°C) inland. However, those in the hill regions will experience a cooler day with temperatures peaking at 73°F (23°C). Overnight lows will bring some relief from the heat, dipping to 74°F (23°C) on the coast and a chilly 62°F (17°C) in the hills.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, the forecast predicts cloudy spells with a chance of morning showers or light rain, mainly affecting coastal areas. These showers are expected to become more isolated as the day progresses.
“This northerly airflow is bringing some welcome relief from the heat,” said Catherine Cumberbatch, the forecaster who issued today’s report. “However, we urge everyone to be mindful of the marine conditions and take necessary precautions if venturing out on the water.”
The Met Office also provided information on today’s tides, with a low tide occurring at 5:46 AM and a high tide at 12:02 PM. Another low tide is expected at 4:40 PM, followed by a high tide at 10:50 PM.
