$50,000 in cash lost in Valley of Peace fire; Total damages reach $150,000

By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities are investigating a fire that occurred in the early hours of Friday, November 15, in Valley of Peace, Cayo District. At approximately 1:20 a.m., police responded to reports of a blaze engulfing a two-story cement building.

The building’s owner, 50-year-old Chinese businessman Jing Pan Tan, reported that he was awakened around 1:00 a.m. by the smell of smoke while sleeping inside. Upon investigation, he discovered smoke emanating from the kitchen area.

The fire resulted in the destruction of approximately $150,000 worth of property, including a Boledo machine, $50,000 in cash of various denominations, a licensed Luger nine-millimeter pistol, an Aero Precision .223 rifle with ammunition, and important personal and business documents. Notably, the business was uninsured.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries have been reported.
