By Belize Live News Staff: Good news for history buffs and adventure seekers! The Xunantunich Archaeological Reserve has reopened its doors to visitors. While vehicular access remains restricted, the ferry service is now operational, allowing pedestrians to cross the Mopan River and explore the ancient Maya city.
Xunantunich, meaning “Stone Woman” in Maya, boasts impressive structures like El Castillo, the second tallest building in Belize. Visitors can climb to the top of El Castillo for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and the nearby Guatemalan border.
The Institute of Archaeology encourages visitors to enjoy Xunantunich and all of Belize’s remarkable archaeological sites. Updates on access and any changes to operations will be provided as needed.
