Battle for UDP’s future: Panton vs. Barrow

By Belize Live News Staff: As the Alliance for Democracy Unity Convention approaches, internal conflict within the party heats up. Tracy Panton’s Alliance for Democracy (AFD) claims it is having the convention to unite the party and put Tracy Panton at the helm of the UDP, while Shyne Barrow and the UDP executive refer to the convention as a ‘fake’ one, not sanctioned by the UDP, and claim that the Alliance for Democracy is a new party in formation by expelled members of the UDP.

The UDP’s deputy chairman issued a statement urging members to stand by the party’s principles and reject the Alliance For Democracy, labeling them as a breakaway faction. In response, Panton’s group denied being a splinter movement, asserting their commitment to restoring integrity and leadership within the UDP.

Both groups remain firm in their positions ahead of the October 20th convention, which will likely determine the future direction of the UDP and whether the Alliance will emerge as a new party.
