BEL meter malfunction sparks accidental house fire in Ladyville

By Belize Live News Staff: Police in Ladyville are investigating a house fire that occurred on Wednesday, October 9, on Arizona Road. The fire, which started around 7:30 a.m., has been ruled as accidental, according to Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) fire personnel who visited the scene.

The fire reportedly originated from the BEL meter socket attached to the residence, a wooden structure elevated about three feet off the ground and measuring approximately 25 by 25 feet. Upon inspection, a portion of the veranda was found damaged by the fire.

The tenant of the house stated that around 7:15 a.m., a neighbor informed her that her house was on fire. By the time she checked, the fire had already been extinguished.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
