Ex-cop Elmer Nah faces trial for double murder, pleads not guilty

By Belize Live News Staff: Former police officer Elmer Nah, 40, appeared before Justice Nigel Pilgrim in the High Court on Thursday, facing multiple charges related to the murders of two brothers and the attempted murders of two others. Nah, who participated in the hearing via virtual representation by his attorney Godfrey Smith, faced two separate indictments in connection to the December 2022 killings.

The first indictment includes three counts of murder for the deaths of John and David Ramnarace on December 31, 2022, and one count of attempted murder for Vivian Ramnarace, who succumbed to injuries on January 15, 2023. Nah also faces a charge of attempted murder for Yemí Alberto, with that trial set to be heard by a judge without a jury.

A second indictment, related to the use of deadly means of harm and wounding against Alberto, will be heard by a judge and a jury of nine.

During the arraignment, which was delayed due to Nah’s late arrival, he pleaded not guilty to all charges. Justice Pilgrim informed Nah of his rights and set key dates for case management, with hearings scheduled for October 16 and 17, 2024. The trial is expected to begin in early 2025, pending the results of forensic analyses.
