By Belize Live News Staff: The Ministry of Agriculture’s “Youth in Agriculture” Summer Camp has kicked off with approximately 85 enthusiastic young participants. Held at the Yo Creek Agriculture Station, this one-week camp aims to inspire the next generation of farmers through hands-on agricultural experiences.
Throughout the week, campers will delve into various activities, including vegetable seedling production, honey by-products, agro-processing, livestock rearing, and fruit tree cultivation. These activities are designed to introduce practical farming techniques and instill a passion for sustainable agriculture.
Minister of Agriculture Jose Abelardo Mai addressed the participants during the opening ceremony, emphasizing the importance of agriculture for Belize’s future and the key role young people play in ensuring food security.
This year’s camp theme, “Growing Future Farmers: Cultivating Skills, Harvesting Success!”, reflects the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing new agricultural leaders. They see this initiative as crucial in addressing the challenge of an aging farmer population and ensuring a sustainable food system for Belize.
