By Belize Live News Staff: Veterinary Clinics in Belize are witnessing an increase in parvo cases among dogs, including those partially vaccinated. This rise exceeds the expected number of cases during this period when female dogs are typically having puppies. Similar trends have been reported in Yucatan, Mexico.
The Veterinary Association of Belize is urging dog owners to consult their registered veterinarians regarding the protection of their dogs against this alarming surge in parvo cases. In Belize, dog vaccines are regulated by the Belize Agricultural Health Authority and are available only by prescription, ensuring quality control and proper clinical management.
Canine parvovirus, highly contagious and caused by CPV-2, primarily affects puppies between 6 and 20 weeks old, unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated dogs, and certain breeds such as Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Doberman Pinschers, and Bull Terriers.
