San Jose lounge operator headed to court over late night licence breach

By Belize Live News Staff: Flashing disco lights in the early hours of Sunday morning led Orange Walk police to a lounge in San Jose Village that was still operating after closing time.

Officers on patrol around 1:10am on November 1 went to 5 Sisters Patio and Lounge and asked to see the liquor licence.

The licence, police say, required the establishment to be closed from midnight on regular nights. It was issued in the names of two other people, neither of whom were present.

The woman in charge, 26 year old Laureny Tzul, told officers she runs the business and intended to get the licence transferred to her name.

Police informed her that she had contravened the condition of the licence and warned her for summons.

On Tuesday, she was formally summoned at the Orange Walk Police Station and is due in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court on Monday, November 9.

Police are reminding bar and lounge operators across the district to follow the opening hours set out on their liquor licences.
