By Belize Live News Staff: November has arrived, bringing Belize one month closer to the official end of the Atlantic hurricane season, with the country having avoided a direct hurricane strike so far in 2026.
The hurricane season concludes on November 30, and Belize’s experience this year stands in contrast to several previous seasons when tropical cyclones caused major damage.
One of the most recent examples was Hurricane Lisa, which made landfall in November 2022 and damaged homes, businesses, trees and infrastructure.
Belize also experienced Hurricane Richard in 2010 and Hurricane Dean in 2007, reminders of the country’s vulnerability to powerful tropical systems.
For coastal residents, tourism operators and agricultural communities, the absence of a direct hurricane strike so far this year is encouraging.
However, meteorologists caution that hurricane activity remains possible during November, even as the Atlantic season approaches its conclusion.
Residents should therefore remain alert to official weather bulletins, particularly when tropical disturbances develop in the Caribbean Sea.
The National Meteorological Service’s November 1 forecast indicated that tropical cyclone formation was not expected in the region during the following 48 hours.
That short-term outlook does not eliminate the possibility of tropical development later in the month.
As Belize enters the final stretch of the 2026 hurricane season, the hope is that the remaining weeks will pass without a major storm threatening the country.
