By Belize Live News Staff: Belize’s exit from the EU tax grey list is more than a technical victory. It could make a real difference for business.
With the EU confirming Belize has met all international tax transparency commitments, the country’s financial standing is restored. That means less red tape and scrutiny on financial transactions between Belizean institutions and EU member states.
It is also good news for investment. A clean compliance record can strengthen investor confidence, attract foreign direct investment and make it easier to maintain international correspondent banking relationships, a long running challenge for Belize’s banks.
The delisting confirms Belize’s full alignment with global standards on fair tax competition, transparency and cooperation.
It is the final step in a journey that saw Belize removed from the EU blacklist in February 2024 before clearing its last hurdle this week with a positive OECD review.
Belize now stands among the nations fully recognized by the EU as compliant.
The EU’s next update to its list of non cooperative jurisdictions is due in February 2027.
