By Belize Live News Staff: A young girl in August Pine Ridge Village had to step in to protect her mother on Saturday evening.
According to police, the mother, 28, was at home with her children, ages 12, 10 and 7, when her ex partner showed up and demanded $10. When she refused and asked him to leave, he allegedly choked her and punched her in the face.
It was her 12 year old daughter who intervened, pushing the man away. The mother then picked up her phone to call police, and he walked out.
It was the second incident that day. The woman had already reported earlier on Saturday that the same man entered her home uninvited that morning, threatened to kill her and grabbed her by the arms.
On Tuesday, police charged Silverio Perez, 38, a farmer of August Pine Ridge Village, with common assault.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, contact the police or the Women’s Department for help.
