By Belize Live News Staff: What started as a traffic matter ended with two officers injured and a man facing serious charges.
According to police, a 22 year old man was escorted into the Orange Walk Police Station on Tuesday evening for traffic offences. After being read his rights, he was told he would be held in a cell.
That is when things turned ugly.
Police say the man threatened the two officers escorting him, then fought them all the way to holding cell number 4. There, he allegedly braced himself against the cell frame and pushed back out, refusing to be locked up.
One officer was punched in the right eye and had his watch knocked off and broken. When his colleague intervened, the man allegedly punched both officers before all three went tumbling over a nearby wall.
The man then made a run for the back door but was stopped and subdued by a police sergeant.
Both officers were treated and their injuries certified as harm.
The man is pending charges of aggravated assault, threat of death and damage to property.
