By Belize Live News Staff: Prime Minister John Briceño has made sweeping changes to his Cabinet following a long meeting in Belmopan.
The key changes:
Cayo North Area Representative Michel Chebat now leads the Ministry of National Security, formerly Home Affairs. He will oversee the Belize Police Department and the Belize Defence Force while keeping Energy and Ports.
Orange Walk North Area Representative Ramon “Monchi” Cervantes takes over Public Utilities and Solid Waste Management.
Toledo East Area Representative Dr. Osmond Martinez moves up from Minister of State to full minister responsible for Economic Transformation.
One major question remains unanswered. Julius Espat, who had been overseeing Home Affairs since Oscar Mira was sidelined over the “Mira Millions” scandal, has received no public word on his next role.
The reshuffle follows the Prime Minister’s announcement that he intends to lead the PUP into the 2030 general election, and comes amid reports of tension within the party’s leadership.
