By Belize Live News Staff: The People’s United Party brought its supporters together on the weekend for its National Party Council meeting, but the gathering came against a backdrop of tension within the party’s top ranks.
The meeting, held at the Lord Rhaburn Plaza near Memorial Park in Belize City, had the feel of a party rally. While the turnout was not at the PUP’s peak levels, the crowd was solid and energized.
The event comes days after reports of friction among senior party members and Cabinet.
Some speakers appeared to take subtle jabs during their remarks.
Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports Anthony Mahler urged party members to stay focused on serving the people.
“It’s not about talking on the media, it’s about service to the people. Let us get it together, let us work together, let us deliver for the people of this party,” Mahler said.
He pledged the party would put boots on the ground across all 8,867 square miles of Belize and work to win the next elections.
The rally also comes as Prime Minister John Briceño confirmed he intends to lead the PUP into the 2030 general election, dismissing concerns about cracks in the party.
