By Belize Live News Staff: Belize is moving ahead with a new Investor Residence Program aimed at drawing fresh investment into the country.
The Ministry of Immigration, Governance and Labour says the program is designed to attract new investment, create opportunities and protect the integrity of Belize’s immigration system.
Under the proposed framework, applicants must make a minimum investment of $500,000. They must also spend a total of 12 months in Belize over a three year period.
The program includes safeguards. Investor status can be revoked if an applicant gives false information or fails to meet the required conditions.
The Ministry notes that similar investor residence programs have boosted economic activity in countries across the Caribbean.
Minister Kareem Musa has been explaining the details of the plan to the public
