By Belize Live News Staff: The contract details of Director of Procurement Rey Guerrero are now public after a memo was leaked by a whistleblower.
The memorandum, dated August 24, shows Guerrero’s two year contract was renewed with an annual base salary of $160,000. That is roughly double what a Government Chief Executive Officer earns.
On top of that, Guerrero is set to receive a 20 percent gratuity when the contract ends in 2028, plus nearly $33,000 a year in allowances for housing, vehicle and telephone expenses. Altogether, the package comes to nearly $450,000.
Opposition Leader Tracy Panton says the Government must explain.
“Belizeans deserve to know who approved these terms, what performance assessment supported the renewal, and what results justify the expenditure,” Panton said.
She is calling on the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Finance to release the signed contract, the performance assessment and the Procurement Unit’s results in securing savings and preventing abuse.
Guerrero did not respond to media requests for comment.
