By Belize Live News Staff: Belize may be small, but Belizeans quickly noticed when the country disappeared from a Central American map published by Comex.
The international paint and coatings company has now issued an apology.
Comex Centroamérica acknowledged that it mistakenly left Belize off a map used in a recent promotional post and said it understood the frustration the error caused.
The company apologized to Belizeans who brought the omission to its attention and stressed that Belize remains part of its Central American region.
The mistake attracted particular attention because Comex has an established connection to Belize.
Comex became part of global coatings company PPG Industries following a US$2.3 billion acquisition completed in 2014. PPG said the deal strengthened its architectural coatings business across Mexico and Central America.
A year later, PPG announced an expansion that included Belize alongside Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.
Belize Intellectual Property Office records also document Comex trademarks in the country, including registrations connected to its paints and related products.
The company has now moved to correct the controversy with a direct message to Belizeans.
“Belize is part of our region, and to us, every part matters,” Comex said.
