By Belize Live News Staff: Belize has lost one of its well known cultural artists.
Pablo Collado, the renowned flutist and artist from Benque Viejo del Carmen, has passed away.
Collado was best known for his Maya inspired melodies and his deep connection to the cultural life of western Belize.
Over the years, he performed at national cultural events, the Benque Festival of Culture and numerous artistic gatherings across the country.
His flute became closely associated with music inspired by Belize’s Maya heritage and the cultural identity of Benque Viejo.
Collado also recorded several albums during his career, including Flauta Maya in 2008, Feliz Navidad in 2022 and Vereda Maya in 2024.
The Benque Viejo Town Council announced his passing and extended condolences to the Collado family.
The Council described Collado as a well known artist across Belize whose legacy and contribution to the community will be deeply missed.
It also wished his family strength and comfort during this difficult time.
For Benque Viejo, his passing is a significant cultural loss.
For Belize, Pablo Collado leaves behind a musical legacy that will continue through the recordings and memories he shared with generations of Belizeans.
