By Belize Live News Staff: A high level Taiwanese business mission is headed for Belize.
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung left Taiwan on Sunday leading a delegation of more than 30 representatives from some of the island’s most dynamic industries. Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the mission aims to strengthen economic cooperation with Belize and Guatemala, its two diplomatic allies in Central America.
The sectors represented read like a list of tomorrow’s economy. Green energy and smart transportation. Artificial intelligence and space technology. Biotechnology and health care. Tourism. Finance and trade.
Joining them is the US Taiwan Business Council, an organization that promotes trade and business relationships between the United States and Taiwan.
In Belize, Lin will sit down with Prime Minister John Briceño and tour several projects funded by Taiwan.
The delegation will then move on to Guatemala. There, Lin will meet President Bernardo Arévalo and attend a reception celebrating the 92nd anniversary of Taiwan and Guatemala’s diplomatic relations, as well as Taiwan’s National Day.
Taiwan’s foreign ministry has not said how long the trip will last or when the delegation will return home.
The mission falls under the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, a strategy Lin has pursued since becoming foreign minister in May 2024. Under it, he has visited Taiwan’s allies across the globe with business leaders alongside him, using trade and investment to deepen ties.
For Belize, the tourism and green energy sectors stand out as areas where new partnerships could have a quick and visible impact. Health care and technology cooperation could also bring long term benefits.
Taiwan has long been a development partner for Belize, backing projects across several sectors. This latest visit signals that Taipei wants that relationship to grow beyond aid and into business, investment and trade.
