In a Facebook post, the woman expressed frustration over the increase and shared a screenshot showing an amount due of $1,040.55 to Belize Electricity Limited.
She questioned how her household electricity bill could rise so sharply, saying she had never previously paid an amount that high for her home.
The post has attracted attention as Belizeans continue to discuss the cost of electricity and the wider cost of living.
However, the screenshot shared online does not provide a full breakdown of electricity consumption, meter readings, previous payments or other charges that may explain the amount due.
BBN has not independently verified what caused the increase, and there is no indication from the screenshot alone that BEL made an error.
The situation highlights the importance of customers reviewing their bills carefully and contacting BEL for clarification when there is a sudden or unexplained change in the amount owed.
