By Belize Live News Staff: A late night police business check in San Pedro Town escalated into a confrontation that resulted in two women being arrested and charged.
The incident unfolded on Barrier Reef Drive shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Thursday while police officers were conducting mobile patrol.
According to police, an officer had stopped near a business to conduct a routine check when a bicycle being transported by another vehicle reportedly made contact with the rear view mirror of the parked police mobile.
Officers approached the driver and began dealing with the alleged traffic offences.
Police say a woman nearby began recording the interaction and allegedly directed insulting language at one of the officers.
When officers attempted to detain her, another woman allegedly intervened and prevented police from escorting her away.
Both women were eventually taken to the San Pedro Police Station.
Police allege that the confrontation resumed at the station, where the second woman pushed a female corporal and grabbed her uniform before other officers assisted in restraining her.
Following the investigation, police charged Aleida Michell Trujillo, 30, with aggravated assault and obstructing a police officer.
Antonia Bardales Carcamo, 48, was charged with using insulting words.
The charges stem from allegations contained in the police report and will now be subject to the court process.
