By Belize Live News Staff: A police operation in San Mateo resulted in the discovery of 25 grams of suspected cocaine on Friday.

Police say the operation involved Special Branch, SPOT, GI3 and other personnel acting on intelligence received.

A residence in the area was searched, but officers reportedly found nothing incriminating there.

Police then checked a nearby empty lot.

During that search, an officer noticed a green plastic bag. Further inspection revealed a smaller plastic bag containing a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine.

No one was seen nearby at the time.

The suspected drugs were transported to the San Pedro Police Station and weighed.

Police say the substance amounted to 25 grams.

The suspected cocaine was then sealed, labelled and handed over as found property.

The report does not indicate that anyone was arrested.
