By Belize Live News Staff: A golf cart in San Pedro shut down by the bridge on Saturday morning, and the reason was not mechanical.
The owner, a 23 year old supervisor in the San Mateo area, had it towed back to her store and found the fuel tank empty. She had put $100 of fuel in it two days before.
So she pulled the security footage.
At 2:13am, a man walks up to the parked cart carrying a white bucket. He feeds a hose into the tank and stands there siphoning for about five minutes before walking off to the west.
She recognised him. He had been coming into the store as a customer for roughly a year.
Police uploaded the footage to the police blog. By 3:05pm Sunday, a man matching the description was brought in, still wearing the black shirt and jeans shorts from the video.
Cautioned, he told the officer, “I already know why I am here, but I want to pay back the fuel to the chiney gyal.”
Adrian August, 31, a fisherman of San Mateo, was charged with theft that evening.
Cameras and a quick upload. That is all it took.
