By Belize Live News Staff: Belize has lost a woman who stood at the centre of national life for nearly three decades.
Former First Lady Mrs. Norma Young has passed away.
She served alongside her husband, Sir Colville Young, through his long tenure as Governor-General, a period that spanned from 1993 to 2021. Across those years she carried the duties of the office at ceremonies, state occasions and countless community engagements, always with a manner Belizeans came to recognise.
The United Democratic Party described her kindness, gentleness and grace in extending condolences, and said her commitment to Belize will be etched in the country’s history.
For a generation of Belizeans, the Youngs were simply there. At Independence Day. At national ceremonies. At the moments that mattered.
Condolences have been extended to Sir Colville, their children and grandchildren, and their extended family.
Rest in peace, Lady Norma.
