Taiwanese youth head to Turneffe, Belmopan and Orange Walk

Taiwanese youth head to Turneffe, Belmopan and Orange Walk

By Belize Live News Staff: Six young people from Taiwan touched down in Belize on September 1, and their next few weeks look busier than most visitors’.

They are here under Taiwan’s Global Pathfinders Initiative, which places young Taiwanese with organisations abroad.

The placements say a lot about what they came to see.

Some will work with the Turneffe Atoll Sustainability Association, out on one of the most significant marine areas in the region. Others go to the Belize Audubon Society and the Protected Areas Conservation Trust, both central to how this country manages its protected areas.

The rest head into local government, with the Belmopan City Council, the Belize City Council and the Orange Walk Town Council.

Conservation, sustainable development, governance and community life. Four different windows into how Belize actually works.

Ambassador Amino Chi welcomed them over dinner and told them to step outside their comfort zones.

Exchanges like this usually run one way, with Belizeans heading to Taiwan. This one runs the other direction.

Say hello if you see them around.
