Ahmaad Cherrington, Devin Major, Keith Enwright Jr. and Irene Baki all finished on the podium at the Caribbean Junior Cycling Championships this weekend, racing against the best young riders in the region.
Cycling holds a particular place in Belize. From the Cross Country Classic to the village races that draw crowds every year, the sport is woven into the culture in a way few others are.
What these results show is that the pipeline is working. These riders came up through local clubs and local races, and they are now competing at a regional level.
The rest of the Belizean squad deserves recognition too. Showing up at a Caribbean championship means months of training on roads with no shoulders, in heat that does not let up.
Belize should be proud of all of them.
