By Belize Live News Staff: Six hours passed between the sound of gunfire on Arlington Drive and the discovery of a young man’s body in a yard nearby.
Residents told police they heard several gunshots shortly after 1am on Sunday. Nobody found him until daybreak.
Christopher Smith Jr., a 23 year old baker of Linda Vista Street, was lying on his back in the yard of a residence on McKenzie Lane when police arrived just after 7am.
Officers observed what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the left side of his head and another to his left shoulder. Four expended 9mm casings were recovered.
His father, Christopher Smith Sr., a serving police officer, identified the body.
That detail lands hard. A man who spends his working life at scenes like this one arrived at the worst version of it.
Police investigations continue.
Belize, how much longer can this keep happening?
