By Belize Live News Staff: The government’s play was straightforward: bring the unions and the Chamber to Cabinet Thursday and ask them face to face why they reject the BTL-Speednet deal. The social partners saw a different play, divide and discuss, and declined to be divided.
The reply came jointly from all four groups: the NGOs network, the evangelical association, the Chamber and the NTUCB. Their terms are simple. All four sit at the table or none do. And the financial statements and independent valuation reports they requested weeks ago, still pending, get shared first, with reasonable time to actually review them before any talks.
They also nudged the PUC publicly: fulfill the requests from your own August 6 statement.
Strip away the diplomatic language and the message is blunt. No meeting about the documents without the documents. The coalition that includes business, labour, churches and civil society is holding formation, and Thursday’s Cabinet session just got complicated.
