Morning showers wind down as the wet spell exits Belize

By Belize Live News Staff: One more wet morning, Belize, and then the wave lets go. The rain event that arrived with Tuesday’s watches spends its last energy today, showers, thunderstorms, and periods of rain around the country through the morning, central and southern areas catching the most, before the whole system stands down through the afternoon and shrinks to isolated pockets by tonight.

The National Meteorological Service reports moist and unstable conditions still in charge for now, with cloudy spells today and tonight. But the trajectory is all exit: no watches or cautions ride on this morning’s bulletin, and Thursday’s forecast reads generally fair, the word the umbrellas have been waiting for. Southern residents on soft ground should keep half an ear on NEMO and the National Hydrological Service all the same, wet season courtesy.

The departing rain leaves a parting gift: the coolest day in recent memory. Inland tops out at just 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 Celsius), a full four degrees off the season’s usual swelter, easing to 73 (23 Celsius) tonight. The coast holds at 87 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) with a low of 79 (26 Celsius), and the hills luxuriate at 79 degrees Fahrenheit (26 Celsius), dipping to a sweater-adjacent 67 (19 Celsius). Enjoy the discount, the heat will reclaim its throne soon enough.

The sea settles alongside the sky, easterly winds of 5 to 15 knots, a choppy surface, and waves of 3 to 5 feet, workable water returning just in time for the back half of the week.

And now the part of the bulletin that ends an era: the tropics are quiet no more. Two systems have appeared on the Atlantic map, a less-organized low about 1,000 miles east-northeast of Bermuda with a medium chance of development, and, more notably, a tropical wave 800 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands showing real signs of organization, now carrying a high chance of becoming a tropical depression within a couple of days as it tracks westward across the central Atlantic. The essential words for Belize appear beside both: no threat, and neither system is anywhere near the Jewel. But the season’s long silence is over, the deep Atlantic conveyor has switched on, and this page begins its tracking duty today, so the country never has to wonder.

Thursday brings the sunshine home, fair skies with isolated showers, the south collecting a few extras late at night, and the week finishing far drier than it began.

As for the tides, today’s highs fall at 9:19 AM and 10:25 PM, with lows at 4:28 PM and 3:48 AM tomorrow. The sun sets this evening at 6:20 PM and rises again at 5:35 AM. This forecast was prepared by forecaster Tareek Matthews.
