The workday ended with the truck gone, the day’s collections gone, and, according to the northern border’s records, the employee gone too, into Mexico.
The Belize Police Department reports that a 50-year-old supervisor of the Orange Walk Town company came forward on Thursday, August 6, 2026, to report what Tuesday, August 4, had cost the business.
The vehicle is a grey 2006 Nissan Frontier four-door pickup, company property valued at $20,000, about US$10,000. The cash is an undisclosed sum, whatever the day’s sales route collected before the route stopped mattering. And the rules, as the supervisor laid them out to police, were plain: company vehicles are for business only, back by 5:00 p.m. unless authorized, never for personal use.
By 6:30 p.m., a colleague’s message confirmed the deadline had come and gone with no truck and no driver. By the time police circulated word to the border points, the northern border had the answer waiting: the employee exited Belize that same day, August 4, and entered Mexico.
Police have visited several business places, circulated a detention message to all formations, and opened an investigation. No charge has been laid, so no name is published here, and the full story of the unreturned vehicle and money remains for the investigation to establish.
What the case already tells is the season’s recurring lesson about the border’s double edge.
