Belize back to bright skies after the midweek wave

By Belize Live News Staff: The umbrellas served their Wednesday shift, and the sunshine has reclaimed the country. Belize’s Thursday arrives warm and relatively dry, with the tropical wave gone east and the familiar August heat settling straight back into its groove at 95 inland.

The National Meteorological Service reports sunny skies with a few cloudy spells today, turning partly cloudy tonight. The showers retreat to isolated status, with just a low chance of a few more visiting southern Toledo after dark, the wave’s final forwarding address before it leaves Belizean weather maps entirely.

The heat wastes no time reasserting itself. Inland communities bake at 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 Celsius) before easing to 74 (23 Celsius) overnight. The coast tops out at 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) with a warm low of 82 (28 Celsius), while the hills hold the comfortable ground at 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius), cooling to 68 (20 Celsius). The water bottle and the shade tree remain the working Belizean’s best colleagues.

The sea keeps a little of the wave’s temper, with easterly winds of 10 to 20 knots, choppy conditions, and waves of 3 to 5 feet. No caution flies at the moment, but small craft operators know the drill: respect the chop, especially near any stray shower.

The tropics continue their generous August silence, with no cyclone formation expected anywhere in the region over the next 48 hours, quiet skies deep in the heart of the season, and Belize will take every day of it.

Friday promises more of the same, sunshine, heat, and isolated showers at most, teeing up another fine weekend for the Jewel.

The forecast was prepared by forecaster Derrick Rudon.
