One bright day, then a tropical wave crosses Wednesday

By Belize Live News Staff: Consider Tuesday the calm with a deadline. Belize basks in sunshine and 94-degree inland heat today, while out east, the next tropical wave is already making its approach, booked to cross the country on Wednesday with showers and thunderstorms in its luggage.

The National Meteorological Service reports moist and unstable conditions setting the stage. Today stays sunny with a few cloudy spells, clouding over at times tonight, and the showers keep to their recent script, generally isolated, with the south and possibly some central areas collecting a few extra outbreaks after dark.

The heat holds its August form. Inland communities reach 94 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) before easing to 73 (23 Celsius). The coast tops out at 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) with a warm low of 82 (28 Celsius), while the hills peak at 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) and cool to a comfortable 68 (20 Celsius). Water close, shade often, the usual drill.

Boaters get the firmer end of the day, with easterly winds of 10 to 20 knots, choppy seas, and waves of 3 to 5 feet, manageable, but no day for carelessness on the small craft.

Then comes Wednesday’s turn. The approaching tropical wave crosses the country with cloudy spells, a few showers, and isolated thunderstorms mostly over central and southern areas through the day, shifting mostly to the south by Wednesday night. It is the August rhythm Belize knows by heart, sun, wave, sun again, and this is the wave beat of the week.

The comfort stays constant: no tropical cyclone formation is expected in the region over the next 48 hours, so this is weather, not worry.

As for the tides, today’s lows fall at 8:08 AM and 7:51 PM, with highs at 1:59 PM and 1:55 AM tomorrow. The sun sets this evening at 6:24 PM and rises again at 5:33 AM. This forecast was prepared by forecaster Tareek Matthews.
