A golden Sunday caps Belize’s fair weekend

By Belize Live News Staff: The long weekend earned its ending. Belize closes the Emancipation Day holiday stretch under mostly sunny skies, with the seas at their calmest, the tropics at their quietest, and the inland heat making its presence thoroughly known at 95 degrees.

The National Meteorological Service reports warm and relatively dry conditions holding firm, with sunshine through the day, partly cloudy skies tonight, and only isolated showers, if the clouds bother at all.

The heat is the day’s one demand. Inland areas roast at 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 Celsius), the hottest reading of young August, before easing to 74 (23 Celsius) overnight. The coast reaches 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) with a warm low of 82 (28 Celsius), while the hills stay most forgiving at 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius), cooling to 68 (20 Celsius). Sunday plans belong under a tree, beside a fan, or better yet, in the water.

And the water is inviting. Easterly winds of 10 to 15 knots, a light chop, and waves of just 2 to 4 feet make it the weekend’s best day on the sea, for the cayes crowd, the fishers, and every family squeezing one more swim from the holiday.

The tropics keep their August good manners, with no cyclone formation expected anywhere in the region over the next 48 hours.

Monday eases the country back to work under mainly fair skies with only isolated showers, though the south should keep an umbrella within reach for a few showers and isolated thunderstorms arriving Monday night.

As for the tides, today’s lows fall at 6:15 AM and 6:46 PM, with highs at 12:13 PM and 12:46 AM tomorrow. The sun rose at 5:32 AM and sets this evening at 6:25 PM. This forecast was prepared by forecaster Derrick Rudon.
