By Belize Live News Staff: The rains have eased, but do not let the sunshine fool you, the sea off Belize is angry today, and boaters are being told in no uncertain terms to stay in port.
The National Meteorological Service has issued a small craft warning, a step above the caution seen earlier this week. Strong gusty winds and rough seas are expected, especially near heavy showers, with east to northeasterly winds of 15 to 25 knots, rough seas, and waves running 6 to 8 feet. The advice to operators of small crafts is direct: seek safe harbor, or remain there.
On land, the picture is far brighter. After Saturday’s tropical wave brought flooding to a stretch of the George Price Highway and parts of the Western Regional Hospital, today brings sunny skies with cloudy spells, turning partly cloudy tonight. Any showers or thunderstorms will be generally isolated, giving saturated areas a chance to drain and dry.
The heat comes back with the sun. Inland areas will see highs of 93 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) before dipping to 74 (23 Celsius). Along the coast, expect a high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) and a low of 82 (28 Celsius), while the hills top out at 81 degrees Fahrenheit (27 Celsius) and fall to 68 (20 Celsius).
There is good news in the tropics as well, with no tropical cyclone formation expected anywhere in the region over the next 48 hours.
The outlook for Monday and Monday night calls for cloudy spells with a few showers and thunderstorms mainly over the south, while the rest of the country sees only isolated activity.
As for the tides, today’s highs fall at 7:20 AM and 9:34 PM, with lows at 3:12 PM and 1:52 AM tomorrow. The sun sets this evening at 6:31 PM and rises again at 5:25 AM tomorrow. This forecast was prepared by forecaster Crystal Rosalez.
