By Belize Live News Staff: An afternoon out at an Orange Walk Town spot took a turn when a woman was arrested for refusing to pay her bill, in a matter that was later resolved.
The Belize Police Department reports that the owner of a business on Queen Victoria Avenue said a woman entered the establishment on Friday, July 3, 2026, and opened a tab, ordering a round of drinks and a meal that came to a total of $153.
According to the owner, when she asked the woman about payment, she was assured the bill would be paid. But after repeated requests went unanswered and the woman refused to settle up, the owner contacted the Orange Walk Police Station.
Officers who responded again asked the woman to pay, and when she declined, she was arrested and taken to the station. There, she was identified as 30-year-old Sorangel Ayuso, a Belizean of Belize City. The complainant gave a statement and, at the time, asked that the matter be pursued in court.
In the end, though, the dispute was put to rest. Police confirmed that the next day, the outstanding $153 was paid to the business owner, who then indicated she no longer wanted to take the matter further.
