San Ignacio call center staff demand answers after sudden shutdown

San Ignacio call center staff demand answers after sudden shutdown

By Belize Live News Staff: A group of workers at one of the call centers in San Ignacio say they have been left in limbo after their campaign was abruptly shut down, leaving more than 20 employees without pay.

The workers, who were reportedly sent home over the weekend, gathered outside the building to express their frustration and disappointment. According to them, the way the closure was handled was far from professional, and many were caught completely off guard.

Employees say the only notice they received about the shutdown came in the form of a message, which they claim was then deleted by a floor manager. They say they were told they would be laid off for two weeks without pay until further notice, with little clarity on what would happen after that.

For workers now facing two weeks with no income, the uncertainty has been difficult to bear. Many say they simply want straight answers about whether they still have jobs to return to. Several employees went back to the call center on Monday in search of those answers and a clearer picture of their employment status.

As of now, the workers say they are still waiting for a proper explanation and reassurance about their future.
