Beyond the headlines: A government worker, father, friend, and colleague remembered

By Belize Live News Staff: Beyond the headlines: A government worker, father, friend, and colleague remembered

The tragic killing of Kiffer McKenzie has dominated headlines over the weekend, but for those who knew him, he was much more than the victim of a violent crime.

He was a colleague, a friend, a family member, and a public servant who reported to work each day at Belize’s Nationality and Passports Department in Belize City.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Immigration, Governance and Labour publicly acknowledged that loss, issuing a tribute honoring McKenzie’s service and expressing condolences to those left behind.

The ministry described McKenzie as a member of its family and recognized the grief, sadness, and shock being experienced by colleagues following his death.

For many Belizeans, the story has become another painful example of how violence can abruptly alter lives and leave communities searching for answers.

As police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, the focus for many now shifts to supporting those closest to McKenzie as they navigate an unimaginable loss.

While the investigation will seek to determine what happened on Albert Street, those who knew Kiffer McKenzie are likely to remember something different: the person he was, the relationships he built, and the life he lived before tragedy struck.

For his family, friends, and co-workers, that memory will endure long after the headlines fade.
