By Belize Live News Staff: Motorists using the George Price Highway are being advised to prepare for possible delays following the opening of a new construction work zone near the Western Paradise community.
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing says the latest phase of the George Price Highway Upgrading Project is now underway and will involve significant road improvement works in the area.
Among the planned upgrades are roadway widening, installation of drainage culverts, hot-mix asphalt paving, intersection improvements and additional road safety measures.
Government officials say the project is intended to strengthen Belize’s transportation infrastructure while making the highway more resilient to flooding and safer for daily commuters.
As construction progresses, drivers should expect reduced speed limits, intermittent lane restrictions and temporary traffic diversions.
The ministry is asking residents and motorists to remain patient and cooperative throughout the construction period, noting that the improvements are expected to provide long-term benefits for road users across the country.
Road users are also encouraged to exercise extra caution around heavy machinery and construction crews working within active zones.
Officials say the project represents another major investment in Belize’s national road network and transportation infrastructure.
