By Belize Live News Staff: Just days after hundreds of Belizeans gathered in Belmopan demanding justice for slain physician Dr. Naum Bonilla, the two people accused of his murder have now appeared before the courts.
Hannah Foreman and Edwin Bethran Jr. arrived at the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to answer to a charge of murder arising from the doctor’s fatal shooting on May 29.
The case has attracted national attention because of Dr. Bonilla’s reputation as a dedicated physician who spent years serving Belizean families.
Following his death, emotional tributes poured in from patients, colleagues and community leaders. His widow, Maria Bonilla, delivered a heartbreaking address during a justice rally earlier this week, describing the years her husband devoted to studying medicine and helping others.
Now, attention shifts from public demonstrations to the courtroom, where prosecutors will seek to prove their case against the accused.
While many questions remain unanswered, today’s arraignment marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice for Dr. Bonilla and his family.
BLN will continue to follow every development in this closely watched case.
