By Belize Live News Staff: Belize’s tourism industry is facing another major setback after JetBlue officially ended its New York to Belize route, removing its final flight between JFK International Airport and the Philip Goldson International Airport.
The move comes as part of JetBlue’s “JetForward” restructuring strategy, with the airline reportedly shifting aircraft to routes considered more profitable after Belize failed to meet expectations. The exit follows closely behind Spirit Airlines’ recent departure from the Belize market, sparking growing concerns over the future of affordable air travel to the country.
BTIA President Efren Perez described the loss of any airline as a serious concern for the tourism sector, stressing that Belize depends heavily on increased airlift to drive overnight stays and tourism spending throughout the economy.
Perez noted that despite the setback, Belize still maintains important connections through carriers such as American Airlines, Delta, Copa Airlines and Air Canada, which recently launched direct service between Montreal and Belize.
Tourism officials are now actively working to attract additional carriers while trying to strengthen marketing efforts during the country’s slower tourism season.
