By Belize Live News Staff: A traffic accident on the George Price Highway in Belize City left two vehicles damaged and two drivers injured on Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 2:00 pm on April 16, 2026, police responded to a report from the control room of a road traffic accident at mile 1.5 on the George Price Highway. Upon arrival, officers observed a red GMC minivan with license plate CYC-46421 stationary in the middle of the road, facing south, with extensive front-end damage.
A few feet ahead, a green Toyota Highlander bearing license plate BCC-46421 was seen on the left side of the road, facing west. The SUV had visible damage, including dents to the left passenger door, damage to the left rear fender, and a shattered rear windshield.
Initial investigations revealed that the Highlander, driven by 66-year-old Belizean retiree Emerson Sanker was traveling east to west toward the Faber’s Road roundabout. While at mile 1.5, Sanker reportedly attempted a U-turn when the minivan traveling behind collided into the left rear passenger side of his vehicle, forcing it off to the left side of the road.
Sanker sustained abrasions to his forehead, while the driver of the minivan, identified as Mr. Pelayo, received a cut wound to his middle and index fingers on his left hand, along with abrasions to his left foot. Medico-legal forms were issued to both individuals.
Police confirmed that all vehicle documents and driver licenses were up to date. A sketch plan of the scene was completed, measurements were taken, and the area was processed. Statements from both drivers are still pending as investigations continue.
